Second board from today's session. Basically says the following (all very important points)
40 Marker - CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING - Best way to revise, look at past papers and A* responses. Look at how they group texts and how they mention context in their explanations. Look at how often they use THEORY and how they respond to quotes from CRYSTAL/HUMPHRYS etc. Look at how they mention their own experience.
*Group the texts based on what they have in common CONTEXT-wise (you will get some marks just for this)
*CONTEXT (AO3) is EVERYTHING. Half of your marks (20/40) are awarded for how well you analyse the influence of context, so make sure it is always part of your analysis.
*Write about 6 paragraphs minimum on the data (about a third of your essay)
*Write bout 2 paragraphs on your OWN experience of the CMC method featured or SIMILAR. Provide QUOTES from your own experience (you or your friends/contacts) and analyse these quotes for features in the SAME WAY as you did with the data.
*Don't rely on there being loads of text speak/emojis etc. Even if the texts end up being mostly formal, you still need to say what is happening, and why the CONTEXT (relationship/situation) is affecting this.
*Always mention how this technology makes it possible for people to have these conversations, even if the English used is very formal (eg, a work email may be formal, but it is the CMC that is allowing the boss to contact the employee out of work hours).
*Within the paragraphs of your essay, weave in Prescriptivist and Descriptivist view WHERE RELEVANT (shouldn't need any more than three MAXIMUM).
*Don't just stick the quote from Crystal/Humprys etc in and forget about it. Use it in relation to the data, and then state whether or not you agree with it and why.
